Ready for the new, free start-up coaching “Start up Now”

Start up Now – under this motto, Kompass now offers customized start-up coaching with an adapted concept. The new program takes into account current trends on the job market and supports jobseekers in particular to examine self-employment as a path for themselves free of charge. “This program has been an important part of our start-up consulting work for years,” explains Ellen Bommersheim, Managing Director of Kompass. “Many jobseekers have excellent qualifications and many years of professional experience and discover exciting new prospects for themselves in self-employment.”

Integrated and individualized approach

Kompass takes a holistic and individual approach with its offer for people interested in starting up their own business. “We offer participants the opportunity to combine their existing skills with new professional fields of activity and develop them further in a way that is relevant to the market,” explains Ellen Bommersheim. In this context, it is important to provide answers to current changes and provide insights into key topics. “Start up Now” addresses key topics such as digitalization and sustainability and provides decisive impetus with a focus on female entrepreneurship and artificial intelligence. “By linking personal skills with industry-specific opportunities and forward-looking trends, the comprehensive and holistic coaching is a very good basis for gaining clarity on what the individual path can be,” says Ellen Bommersheim.

New in focus: female entrepreneurship

In the context of a new module of “Start up Now”, Kompass focuses on the opportunities and challenges that female entrepreneurs usually face, in addition to the basic start-up topics. The aim is to strengthen women’s self-confidence and self-efficacy with regard to their entrepreneurial ambitions and to develop a positive mindset. The importance of networking and mentorship for female entrepreneurs and building a supportive network are key success factors.

Central, new module: Artificial intelligence

An important new module in the context of the program is the topic of artificial intelligence. It deals with the basics of artificial intelligence and ChatGPT technology. Participants learn about practical applications. Case studies on the use of AI and ChatGPT in business planning, product development, customer service and marketing strategy are discussed on the basis of innovative business models and corporate concepts. The aim is to impart knowledge, skills and resources to develop innovative business models and design AI-supported products and services. An important topic for sustainably securing the business model.

Entrepreneurial thinking and action as a cross-cutting topic

The fundamental focus of “Start up Now” is on promoting entrepreneurial thinking and action, which is a cross-cutting theme throughout the entire program. For example, in the first phase, the so-called “potential check”, it is examined whether the founder has the prerequisites and potential to implement the start-up project. The business idea, initial market knowledge and personal skills can then be subjected to an initial business assessment in the subsequent consultation phase using the guideline-based entrepreneur check. With the in-depth approach of the Business Model Canvas (BMC), all the key elements of a successful business model are clearly presented and brought into a scalable system. In addition, the topics of finance, digitalization and sustainability check are comprehensively examined as part of the “Start up Now” program. “To be successful in the long term, it is essential to have a functioning business model. It is easier to realize a bad idea with a good business model than the best idea without a coherent business model,” summarizes Ellen Bommersheim. “That’s why we attach great importance to thinking and advising holistically as part of the program.”

Self-employment as an opportunity

We are convinced that self-employment can be an attractive career prospect for many unemployed people,” explains Ellen Bommersheim. “If it turns out during the course of the program that self-employment is not a viable option, we provide participants with the knowledge and skills they need to take up employment subject to social security contributions.” This means that the final decision for or against self-employment lies with the person interested in setting up their own business.

The “Start up Now” program is issued by the employment agency or the job center as a so-called AVGS measure (activation and placement voucher) after an appropriate assessment in order to facilitate re-entry into the job market. The total number of hours is 85 teaching units if all modules are taken. The specific start dates are agreed individually with the regional cost bearers.
